Pink Eye

Pink eye or conjunctivitis can be one of the most annoying problems you can experience in terms of dealing with allergies, chemical exposure, or a viral infection.  Pink eye is an ailment that occurs when the lining in the white part of your eye becomes inflamed and begins turning red or “pink”.  The reason that it turns pink is because the blood vessels that are inside of the conjunctiva begin to dilate, which is what makes the eye inflamed.  Depending on the cause of the pink eye, the eye can even secret a sticky discharge, even causing the eye to seal shut overnight.  Pink eye doesn’t pose any real threat and is not a serious problem, but it can certainly look unsightly and can be very irritating.

It is important to note, that when dealing with pink eye, you should find out where the pink eye problem came from.  Pink eye can be caused due to outside conditions, such as allergies and pollen.  These allergens can irritate the eye and cause the eye to react in this way.  Figuring out if the pink eye is an allergy problem will allow you to be able to fight the allergy, which is the underlying cause.

If the pink eye is begin caused by a chemical substance, then simply reducing exposure to these chemicals would be the best way to deal with your pink eye.

The pink eye is very often caused by a viral infection that colonizes in the conjunctiva.  When this happens, it is important to allow the body to fight the infection and avoid using antibiotics.  When antibiotics are used, you will most often destroy other parts of your immune system.  You might deal with your pink eye today, but you might develop the flu later on.

The Cures for Pink Eye

Pink eye cures can seem very holistic, but the methods used tend to be some of the most effective, and they tend to blow the socks of the more “modern” medical treatments.

Breast milk is the most effective way of dealing with pink eye, as it carries natural properties that destroy that type of bacteria or virus that would colonize in the conjunctiva.  Instilling one drop of breast milk on the affected eye will not only soothe the eye, but it will also fight the infection.  The milk does need to be as fresh as possible in order to work properly.

Warm water is also a very effective method, as this type of infection tends to be very sensitive to heat.  So bathing your face in very warm water will reduce the infection and allow your body to go to work in dealing with the problem.

Chamomile has some very healing and infection fighting properties. Taking warm tea bags of chamomile and placing it over the affected eye for ten minutes is an excellent way to help relieve the problem, especially if the pink eye is very severe.

Pink eye can be cured without medications, you just have to take matters into your own hands.
